THE YEAR IS HALF OVER,
BUT OUR WORK HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN
-- SUPPORT GVSHP!

Dear friend,

2014 is half over -- but our work fighting to preserve our neighborhoods is just getting started. Won't you
support GVSHP by making a contribution today, to help ensure we keep the history, character, and spirit of the Village, East Village, and NoHo alive?
More than 80% of GVSHP's funding comes from contributions from individuals like you. Your support allows us to:

  • Fight to expand landmark and zoning designations to unprotected areas of our neighborhood

  • Advocate at the Landmarks Preservation Commission against insensitive changes and inappropriate new developments in our historic districts

  • Monitor every one of the more than 6,000 buildings in our neighborhoods each day for demolition, alteration, or new construction permit applications

  • Offer dozens of free tours, lectures, book talks, panel discussions, and symposia each year about the history and culture of our neighborhoods

  • Work to help preserve and promote small businesses, theaters, and other arts groups in our neighborhoods

  • Research, document, and publicize the special history of our built environment, preservation pioneers, and cultural icons

  • Highlight and celebrate the institutions and individuals who help make our communities so special with our Annual Village Awards

  • Offer our Children's Education Program, 'History and Historic Preservation,' to any student in New York City, regardless of financial need or ability to pay

These next six months are going to be crucial.

A new chair is taking over at the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Mayor will be releasing plans for hundreds of thousands of new units of affordable housing. We will be in court fighting NYU and the City's appeal of our victory against the NYU expansion plan. Plans may move ahead for a large new development on the Bowlmor Lanes site on University Place and 12th Street. And proposals are expected to advance for the transfer inland of air rights from  Hudson River Park.

Only you can make sure that we succeed in facing all these challenges and ensuring that our neighborhoods' historic character is protected and preserved. Please make a tax-deductible contribution to GVSHP today!

Sincerely,

Andrew Berman
Executive Director
