New to GVSHP Historic Image Archive:  One Family’s View of the High Line Being Demolished      The High Line at Perry Street being demolished, 1962, from the Fritsch Family collection of GVSHP’s Historic Image Archive GVSHP has been incredibly fortunate to receive many donations of old personal or family photos. Some sat in boxes or closets for years, but now many of these photos have become important historic documents.  One wonderful such example is a trio of photos recently donated by the Fritsch family to GVSHP showing the dismantling of the High Line next to their Perry Street home in 1962.  The images are a wonderful time piece from a vastly different period in the West Village’s history, and capture the beginning of the process of the High Line’s undoing in some areas and eventual preservation in others, both of which had a profound effect on their surroundings. The pictures were taken by Peter Fritsch, who along with his wife Theresa were pillars of the West Village activist community, and worked hard to shape and protect the neighborhood in which they lived.
