Revised MTA Mulry Square Project Hearings 5/31 and 6/7

The MTA will be presenting a revised version of their plans for an emergency ventilation plant to replace their parking lot at Mulry Square, Greenwich Avenue and 7th Avenue South, on Tuesday, May 31st at 6:30pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 155 Sullivan Street (below Houston) at the Community Board #2 Landmarks Committee. The MTA has apparently made slight revisions to their prior plan, which will now go through the landmarks review process because it is in the Greenwich Village Historic District. After the CB 2 Landmarks Committee hearing, it will go to the Landmarks Preservation Commission for a public hearing on June 7th (time TBD).

Both hearings allow public comment, and we strongly encourage all who care about this important site to let Community Board #2 and the Landmarks Preservation Commission know your opinion. Unfortunately, because the MTA is a city/state agency, it does not have to abide by the decisions of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and thus its rulings are not binding in these cases.

GVSHP has long urged the MTA to make significant changes to their plan, and questioned the need for this facility at this location and above ground. Read more, including images of the prior proposals and how you to submit public comment, HERE.
