Carole Teller’s Changing New York, 1960s-1990s Part 4 is our latest installment of images from the personal collection of East Village artist Carole Teller. Last year when we shared the first batch of Carole’s images with the world, it was an international sensation, garnering coverage not only across the country but around the globe. We have been gradually unearthing and identifying hundreds more of her images, which contain a remarkable record of how our city has both stayed the same and changed over the last half-century.
In this latest installment of her collection, you’ll not only see street scenes from Washington Square to Avenue B, but a Times Square you may barely recognize, a pre-restoration South Street Seaport, Penn Station being demolished, and Chinatown and Little Italy in simpler times. Dive into the new collection here, and explore Part I, Part II, and Part III of her collection, as well as her incredible images of the filming of the Godfather Part II on the streets of the East Village, where 1973 New York City is made over to look like 1917 Little Italy.
Prints of all these and most other images in our archive are available for sale benefitting GVSHP.
