New to Historic Image Archive:
Carole Teller’s Changing NY, Pt. II
When GVSHP released our “Carole Teller’s Changing New York” collection of our Historic Image Archive in 2017, it struck a chord not just across New York, but across the globe. The images from the early 1960s to the early 1990s taken by the local artist (and longtime GVSHP member) told a story both familiar and eye-opening about how much this city has changed over the last several decades. In its brief life, the collection has been viewed nearly 100,000 times, with coverage in publications across America, Europe, and Asia.
Now GVSHP is releasing a second instalment of the collection, which can be viewed here. Like the first set, it shows a New York which is both familiar and a distant memory, having undergone tremendous change in the intervening years. The release comes in anticipation of our January 25th program Carole Teller's Changing New York: A Close Up on the Photos and the Photographer,in which Carole and GVSHP Executive Director Andrew Berman will discuss the stories of and process behind the photos, offering new insights into the images and raising some new questions, with feedback and questions from the audience. Click here for details and here to make reservations (spaces are limited and going fast).
You can view the entire GVSHP Historic Image Archive here, and browse by map here and image here. Have a collection of old photos you would like to donate to GVSHP and share with the world? E-mail info@gvshp.org.
