New Historic Images: Carole Teller’s Changing New York, Part III

GVSHP is proud to share the latest addition to our online Historic Image Archive – the third installment of our Carole Teller’s Changing New York collection -- click here to view.

Carole is an artist and longtime supporter of GVSHP who has lived in the East Village since the early 1960s. She has generously donated to GVSHP over five hundred photographic images she took of Lower Manhattan and all of New York from the early 1960s to the early 1990s.  Part I of that collection can be found here, and Part II here.  Carole’s pictures show an incredible story of change in New York over the last half-century.  Carole had a keen and prescient eye, catching things on the verge of change, erasure, demolition, restoration, or renewal.  Her pictures capture slices of New York that are both familiar and foreign.

Prints of all these images are available for sale through the website, with proceeds benefitting GVSHP.  You can view all the images and collections on GVSHP’s Historic Image Archive here, and you can search for images by location on our map here.
