Dear Chair Tierney:

THANK YOU FOR LEADING THE LANDMARKS PRESERVATION COMMISSION TO VOTE ON MAY 2nd TO EXTEND LANDMARK PROTECTIONS TO THE FAR WEST VILLAGE! 

By extending the Greenwich Village Historic District into the Far West Village and creating a new Weehawken Street Historic District, the Commission has taken historic steps to protect an area which so many have fought for so long to preserve.

These actions will go a long way towards ensuring that this unique neighborhood, which draws people from far and wide to live, work, and play, remains its distinctive character and architecture.  It also partially fulfills a promise you made to the public in June of 2005 about extending landmark protections to this area.

However, I now urge you to fulfill the remainder of that promise, and designate as landmarks the eight other individual sites in the Far West Village which last year you publicly pledged to landmark by the Spring of 2006.

The May 2nd vote, combined with the promised designation of eight individual landmarks in the neighborhood, will not only fulfill your pledge, but make a huge difference in ensuring the preservation of one of New York’s most historic neighborhoods.  PLEASE DO SO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
