Mayor's Citywide Rezoning Plans Advance Feb. 3 and Feb 10

The Mayor’s plan to gut neighborhood zoning protections by lifting height limits for new developments will be voted out by the City Planning Commission on February 3rd.  A “revised” version of the plan can be found here, which is largely unchanged from the version heard in December that hundreds turned out to oppose and 90% of the city’s community boards, and all its borough boards and borough presidents, rejected.

As the majority of the City Planning Commission’s members are appointed by the Mayor, the plan is expected to pass. But will the six appointees of each of the Borough Presidents and the Public Advocate approve the plan as well?

From here the plan goes to the City Council for public hearings and a vote.  It’s CRUCIAL that we have a large turnout in opposition to the plan.  The City Council public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 10 at 9:30 am at City Hall.

While the rezoning plan would affect rules for new developments throughout our neighborhood, the East Village, Far West Village, South Village, and University Place/Broadway corridors would be particularly strongly affected.
