Astor Place Mosaic Poles, Public Spaces Coming Together
Steady progress is being made on the Astor Place/Cooper Square Reconstruction, transforming this intersection which is the gateway to the East Village, NoHo, and Greenwich Village. Pedestrian spaces are being added, green spaces are being expanded, traffic is being calmed, and iconic artworks which have defined these neighborhoods for generations are being restored.

GVSHP has taken a special interest in this project since it was first announced more than five years ago. Two important priorities for us: ensuring that the historic street patterns which defined these intersections are preserved, and that the wonderful artwork which has adorned this crossroads for more than a generation is restored.
We’re happy to report there has been significant progress on both fronts, though we still have a ways to go. Find out more, and how you can help, with our latest post on our blog Off the Grid.
