Re: St. Mark’s Bookshop

Dear Dr. Bharucha:

St. Mark’s Bookshop is an incredibly valuable and vital asset to the local community and to New York City as a whole. I believe that independent bookstores, and particularly St. Mark’s Bookshop, contribute immeasurably to the quality of life in New York and to the cultural and social vitality of our neighborhoods.
Cooper Union originally agreed to house St. Mark’s Bookshop as means to respond to community concerns about the construction of a high-rise dorm, in which the bookshop is now located. I believe that the bookstore’s presence benefits Cooper Union in many ways, adding to the richness of the experience of its students and faculty.

I hope that Cooper Union can find an economically feasible way to allow St. Mark’s Bookshop to continue on at this location.
