Re: Support for proposed 3rd/4th Avenue Corridor Rezoning, Manhattan
Dear Director Burden:
I write to support the proposed rezoning of the 3rd and 4th Avenue corridors in Manhattan.
The current zoning for these blocks are woefully inadequate, promoting out-of-scale development such as NYU’s recently-constructed 26-story dorm, and providing strong incentives for the development of dorms and hotels. I support putting height limits in place, placing contextual controls on new development, and eliminating the incentive for commercial and community facility development.
While City Planning’s proposed rezoning does not go as far as community advocates called for and as I believe it should, it is nevertheless an improvement over the current situation. Given that City Planning has made clear that this is as far as they are willing to go in protecting the character of this neighborhood, I urge you to move ahead with the proposed rezoning.
