State Seeks to Lift Cap on Size of Residential Buildings in NYC

 

For the second time in two years, the State Legislature is seeking to lift a half-century old limit on the size of residential buildings in New York City, at the bidding of Mayor de Blasio and the real estate industry. Our current limits have allowed residential buildings of 1,500 feet in height, but that’s not enough – they want NO limits whatsoever in state law on how big residential buildings can go!
 
If this longstanding State limit is lifted, it will allow even greater overdevelopment of our neighborhoods and more abuse of the system. The State Senate has already passed a measure lifting the cap in its budget – we need to ensure the State Assembly does not do the same.
