Big Hearing on Anti-Landmarking Bill Tomorrow

City Council Intro. 775, a bill which would impose strict deadlines for considering buildings and neighborhoods for landmark designation, and deny them landmark designation and allow a five year window for demolition to proceed if deadlines are not met, will be heard tomorrow at City Hall at 11 am.  This bill presents a huge threat to efforts to protect our city’s richly diverse neighborhoods and architectural and cultural heritage. GVSHP has been joined by scores of preservation groups, the American Institute of Architects, several New York City Councilmembers and Borough President Gale Brewer in opposing the bill in its current form.  Find out more about the bill here and here.

Tomorrow’s hearing will help determine if the current bill moves ahead or if we can stop it.  It’s CRITICAL that we have a large turnout at City Hall tomorrow, and that City Councilmembers hear from you NOW about the harm this bill would cause.
