Lucy and Lenny Cecere Street Renaming
next Wednesday, 10/16 at 3pm
at MacDougal & Houston Streets

Lucy and Lenny Cecere

Please join Village Preservation, City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Community Board #2, and the Cecere Family for the unveiling of the honorary secondary street renaming of MacDougal Street between Houston and King Streets as “Lucy and Lenny Cecere Way.” The renaming will take place outside the Ceceres’ former home at 51 MacDougal Street, which was also the location of their beloved neighborhood business ‘Something Special.’

In 2018, Village Preservation proposed the renaming of this block to honor these two longtime neighborhood leaders.  Hundreds of you came out for hearings to show support and signed petitions to honor these two beloved individuals. Lucy was a longtime leader in providing services to seniors and those in need in our community, while Lenny ran the family businesses, “Something Special,” in the ground floor of their home, which served as an extension of many in the neighborhood’s homes. They were beloved figures who cared deeply about and dedicated their lives to their community.

We are deeply grateful to Speaker Corey Johnson and Community Board #2 for supporting and advancing the street renaming and now making it a reality. And we are overjoyed to be joined by the Cecere family to mark this special occasion on Wednesday.  All are welcome to attend the ceremony.
