Great New Information and Tools on
Our Landmarks Applications Webpage

Since 2011, Village Preservation has provided a unique online tool – a record of every application filed for changes to landmarked properties in our neighborhood that have to go through the public hearing and review process. We let you know what the application is, when it is being heard, how you can weigh in on the decision, and what the final decision of the Landmarks Preservation Commission is. We let you sign up for notifications by address or block, or search for applications by address, type, or map. This allows you to know what’s going on in your neighborhood and on your block and allows you to have a say in the outcome.

We’ve just added some great new features to this tool.  First, we now have all the actual permits issued by the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) after they have rendered their decisions in these cases, which describes what exactly they have allowed. This allows you to see even more clearly what was – or was not – approved, and allows you to understand what to expect, as well as to tell if changes you are seeing have received appropriate approvals.  We have included all such LPC permits issued in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo since 2016 (when such permits became available online), and will include all new permits moving forward. See an example here (from our webpage for this landmarks application).

We’ve also added a link on every page to the LPC’s permit map which also includes staff-level (non-public hearing) permits.  Though generally of a more minor nature, these can sometimes include important and substantial work you might be interested to know about for landmarked buildings.  You’ll find the map and link at the bottom of every page of our Landmarks Application Webpage or just go to it directly here.

Finally, we've also added a new survey to the page so we can get feedback from you, the public, about how we can make this tool most useful to you. Just use our page at vparchive.gvshp.org/lpc and the survey will pop up.  If you are willing to take a few seconds to let us know how it has served you, we would really appreciate it.  If not, just click off it and go ahead looking for the information you are seeking – whether about current or past landmarks applications.
