Press Conference to Save the Landmarked Former Charas/P.S. 64 Monday March 9th

Please join GVSHP, Councilmember Rosie Mendez, Borough President Scott Stringer, community Board #3, the East Village Community Coalition, and a host of community and preservation groups for a press conference Monday, March 9 at 5:30 P.M. to call for an end to what appears to be the willful neglect and decay of this historic landmark. The owner, who has lost several court battles to overturn landmark designation, has removed historic details from the building and left it open and exposed to the elements. The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has called upon the building owner to seal the building, but he has thus far refused; the LPC can levy fines against the owner, but has not yet.

Join us as we call upon the owner to live up to his responsibility to maintain this precious historic resource, and to the City to take decisive action to force him to do so.
