Public Meeting on NYU Plan for 40-story Hotel on Bleecker Street June 21

This coming Monday, June 21 at 6:30 P.M. at 75 Morton Street (at Greenwich Street) NYU will present its plans for a 40-story hotel on Bleecker Street within the landmarked Silver Towers complex as part of its ‘NYU 2031’ 20-year expansion plan. It is very important that you attend and let NYU, elected officials, and the Community Board (which will be holding the meeting) hear your concerns about this massive new development in our neighborhood.

Although NYU has recently announced a willingness to consider the Financial District as a location for its future growth — as GVSHP, the Community Task Force on NYU Development, and Community Board 1 have long suggested — they are still adamantly refusing to consider it as an alternative to their proposed large scale development in the Village.

The approx. 40-story tower will require Landmarks Preservation Commission approval and zoning changes before construction begins. The City will also have to give public land to NYU for the project to move ahead.

Read more about the proposed tower in this Wall Street Journal article, which also features new renderings of the building that NYU had not previously released to the affected public.

We hope you can attend on Monday, the 21st!
