NYU 2031 Update
Following the tremendous turnout at last week’s Community Board 2 public hearing on NYU’s landmarks application for a 400 ft. tall tower on Bleecker Street in Silver Towers, the Community Board’s Landmarks and Institution Committees will reconvene in early December to adopt a resolution responding to the plan, which will be voted on by the full board later that month. While nothing is official yet, we are optimistic that the Board’s resolution will reflect the overwhelming public sentiment and reject the plan. Because it is not on the agenda for the Board meeting tomorrow night (Nov. 16th), we are not asking the public to attend this meeting.
The hearing on the 400 ft. tall tower proposal by the Landmarks Preservation Commission (which will decide if it gets the needed landmarks approvals) is now expected sometime in January; GVSHP will inform you when that date and time have been set. IT IS CRITICAL THAT WE HAVE A STRONG SHOWING AT THAT HEARING IN OPPOSITION TO THIS DANGEROUS PRECEDENT-SETTING PLAN.
