Dear Commissioner LiMandri:
Thank you for issuing the Department’s notice of intention to revoke approvals for the planned 8-story building at 178 Bleecker Street. I am glad that the Department has now chosen to uphold the Sliver Law in this case and not allow a new building to exceed 60 feet in height.
I urge the Department to stick to this position and make sure the Sliver Law is applied in this case and zoning protections meant to prevent out-of-scale development in this neighborhood are enforced. I know the Department is reviewing the response of the applicant but it is critical that these provisions be upheld regardless.
I also urge the Department not to allow this or any other applicant to falsely claim the inclusion of “community facilities” in their proposed development in order to be allowed to build larger or with greater lot coverage than would normally be allowed.
