Julius' Sip-In 50th Anniversary Approaches

Next month will be the 50th anniversary of the “Sip-In” at Julius’ Bar in Greenwich Village, a landmark of civil rights history which helped change the law and attitudes around LGBT people three years before the Stonewall Riots

In response to this milestone, GVSHP is renewing its push for landmark designation for the 1826 building which houses Julius’, which has had a bar in its ground floor since at least 1864.  In 2012, GVSHP got Julius' ruled eligible for the State and National Registers of Historic Places.  Read more here.

In honor of this effort, the Fred W. McDarrah Estate has generously donated a limited number of high-quality prints of the iconic image of this great moment in civil rights history to be available for sale, with proceeds supporting GVSHP.
