June is LGBT Pride & History Month, and this June is special as it also marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, three nights of disturbances in Greenwich Village which kicked off the modern LGBT rights movement and changed the course of history.
There’s a few ways you can mark the occasion with Village Preservation:
Read or listen to one of our many oral histories with important LGBT New Yorkers or touching on LGBT history, including dance legend Merce Cunningham, activist David Rothenberg, St. Vincent’s doctor Victor Keyloun, LGBT Center Archivist Rich Wandel, painter and community activist Albert Fabozzi, and preservationist and bar historian Tom Bernadin, among many others. |
