Latest Additions to Our Civil Rights
and Social Justice Map
– New LGBTQ Sites, Richard Wright, Amelia Earhart, William Kunstler, and Asian-American History

Since its launch in 2017, our Civil Rights and Social Justice Map of Greenwich Village, the East Village and NoHo has been viewed nearly 100,000 times, and has expanded from fifty to nearly one hundred fifty entries.  The map looks at everything from the first free black settlement in North America to the birthplace of the modern LGBT rights movement, from the home of the first female candidate for president to the site of the founding of the Young Lords Party, from sites key to the fights against anti-Asian and anti-Semitic discrimination, to the founding of Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and the Catholic Worker movement. 

We’ve recently added several new sites to the map, including the home of noted civil rights author Richard Wright, a whole tour of sites connected to Asian-American history, the home of Amelia Earhart, sites connected to LGBT rights pioneers Craig Rodwell and Randy Wicker, and much more.  Explore it all atvparchive.gvshp.org/civilrightsmap.
