New Iconic Historic Images
of Greenwich Village and the East Village

Village Preservation is proud to announce the release of a new collection of incredible images of Greenwich Village and the East Village from 1959 through the 1960s and 70s by master Village Voice photographer Fred W. McDarrah. 

You’ll see iconic figures like Jane Jacobs, Allen Ginsberg, Ellen Stewart, Diane Di Prima, Edward Hopper, John Belushi, Bobby Kennedy, Dustin Hoffman, Robert de Niro, Martin Scorcese, Ed Koch, William S. Burroughs, Jodie Foster, and Norman Mailer.  And you’ll see iconic locations and events like the old Loew’s Sheridan Theater, protesting the Lower Manhattan Expressway, the Bon Soir Nightclub, the Fillmore East, Kettle of Fish, the 'Beatnik Riots,' Gem Spa, La MaMa, McSorley’s, the Stonewall Inn, the 1977 Blackout, the filming of Taxi Driver, the Weathermen bombing on 11th Street, the Women’s House of Detention, Bleecker Street Cinema, Pageant Bookstore, Café Bizarre, Variety Photoplays Theater, and the 8th Street Bookshop.
