New Historic Image Collection –
Greenwich Village, NoHo and
the East Village in the 80s and 90s

From the new collection in our Historic Image Archive.

We’re proud to announce the latest addition to our Historic Image Archive: a new collection of images of Greenwich Village, NoHo and the East Village in the 1980s and 90s from East Village artist Carole Teller – view them here.

Carole has already donated a treasure trove of hundreds of images of our neighborhoods and the five boroughs from over the last fifty-plus years. This latest installment brings us to the more recent past, and captures more recently-departed local institutions such as Ray’s Pizza, French Roast, Joe Jr.’s the Jones Diner, Jefferson Market, CBGB, Balducci’s, Frutti di Mare, Charlie Mom, and Mars Bar. But it also shows beloved local nooks and crannies like Milligan Place and Extra Place, as well as long-term survivors like Sammy’s Noodles.  Explore the collection here.

You can also explore our entire Historic Image Archive with nearly 2,000 images ranging from the late 18th to the early 21st century throughout New York City, with most from the 20th century and focusing on Greenwich Village, NoHo, SoHo, and the Lower East Side/East Village.  You can purchase prints of most images (with proceeds supporting our work) here and explore the image archive by map below:
