Alert from the
Greenwich Village Society
for Historic Preservation

The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation has been working with neighborhood groups and residents, and City Council Member Christine Quinn, to try to address the issue of illegal locksmith stickers which are constantly being placed on doors.  These stickers are very difficult to remove and often leave behind scars and other damage, and have appeared not only in Greenwich Village but throughout Manhattan.

We urge you to report these stickers and demand an inspection and fines be levied -- new laws passed by the City Council make the placement of these stickers on private property illegal.  For a flyer telling you how to file a report, CLICK HERE.  For the latest update on progress on this issue, please see below.

Commissioner, NYC Department of Sanitation

Dear Commissioner Doherty,

I am writing to thank you for your efforts to combat the locksmith sticker vandals who have been targeting the West Village.  Vandals have been defacing our historic buildings with these stickers for some time.  It is a great relief that the Department of Sanitation enforcement team is making strides against these graffiti vandals.

Thank you for focusing on top offenders like L&M Locksmiths, and I look forward to hearing of more such successful sting operations.

Sincerely,
