Greenwich Village Stories Launches with Rave Reviews!

Village Awards Deadline Approaches

Greenwich Village Stories Launches With Rave Reviews!

Since releasing our book Greenwich Village Stories only two weeks ago, we have had the great fortune of receiving glowing reviews and features in local and national media.  The book has appeared online at Vogue and Refinery 29, which calls the book "a lovely reminder of the reason so many of us come to New York in the first place." The New York Times reviewed Greenwich Village Stories and featured a profile of contributor Peter Longo, owner of Porto Rico Importing Co.

The book is available at your favorite local bookstores. Visit IndieBound to find an independent bookstore in your area; royalties from the sale support the work of GVSHP.

Interested in hearing our story? Come to one of the four great launch events happening throughout the month of April. Tomorrow night at the Strand, listen to John Leguizamo share his story. Next Wednesday the 16th, Penny Arcade joins Lenny Kaye for a night of Greenwich Village memories at the Writers Room held especially for GVSHP members (find out how to become a member here). On April 23rd, we partner with Symphony Space for Selected Shorts: Greenwich Village Stories, featuring contributors Penny Arcade, Simon Doonan, Dave Hill, Isaac Mizrahi, and Ralph Lee joined by special guests Jane Curtin and Parker Posey. To cap off a month of amazing launch events, on April 29th we will gather at Village bookstore Three Lives & Company for a meet and greet and celebration with contributors Lauren Belfer, Karen Cooper, Tony Hiss, Bob Holman, Anita Lo, and Calvin Trillin. Visit our website for details on times, locations, and how to purchase tickets.

Check out these pictures from last night's launch event for book contributors and editors at Morandi, and don't forget to like us on Facebook and join our community of Greenwich Village storytellers.

Last chance to submit a nomination for GVSHP's annual Village Awards

Deadline is this Friday, April 11, so submit your nomination online today!

Since 1991, GVSHP has presented its Village Awards in recognition of those people, places, and organizations which make a significant contribution to the quality of life in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo. This year, GVSHP will present its 24th Annual Village Awards at our Annual Meeting on June 16th.

Won't you take a moment to nominate a Village treasure? You can nominate almost anything or anyone: an individual that volunteers for the community, a business, organization, streetscape, front stoop, restoration, or garden. The nominee must be located within Greenwich Village, the East Village, or NoHo, and cannot have been presented a Village Award in the past. You can browse the list of past awardees, so you do not re-nominate a past winner.

Awardees are reviewed by the 2014 GVSHP Awards Committee, a group of GVSHP members, community leaders, business owners, and past award recipients from all areas of the Village.

Nominations must be received by 6:00 P.M. on Friday, April 11, 2014. An online registration form, list of prior winners, and more information about the awards can be found on the GVSHP website.
