Click here   June 25 2015 THE YEAR IS ALMOST HALF OVER, BUT WE HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO DO – SUPPORT GVSHP!   Dear friend, 2015 is not yet half over, but SO MUCH has already happened. But the rest of the year may have an even bigger impact upon the future of our neighborhoods  – won’t you consider making a mid-year contribution to GVSHP to help ensure we can keep up the fight? In just the last six months, we have:   Helped stop a plan by the City to ‘de-calendar’ or remove more than 95 sites across the five boroughs from the list of those under consideration for landmark designation   ​Gotten the City to rollback part of its rezoning plan that would lift height limits and loosen zoning restrictions throughout our neighborhoods   Argued our case against NYU’s massive twenty-year expansion plan before the highest court in the State, seeking to resolve conflicting lower court rulings in our favor   Organized opposition to a City Council bill that would hamstring landmarking efforts Joined the campaign in support of legislation that would support small businesses, while amping up our “Business of the Month” program   Released a report exposing the Real Estate Board of New York’s hypocrisy and conflicts of interest in claiming preservation impedes affordability   Got broad support for our University Place/Broadway rezoning plan to prevent developments like the planned 300 ft. tall tower on the Bowlmor site   Secured long-overdue landmark designation of the Stonewall Inn   Helped get final approval of a rezoning on West 14th and 15th Street to prevent out-of-scale new development   Continued our historic plaque program by marking the former studio of dance pioneer Martha Graham   Honored community activists, independent businesses, local cultural institutions, downtown documentarians, historic restorations and neighborhood craftspeople with our Annual Village Awards Staged dozens of tours, lectures, and other public programs; taught hundreds of school children; and educated numerous real estate professionals about the value of historic preservation   Reviewed and shared with the public numerous applications for changes to landmarked structures in our neighborhood, advocating for changes and informing the public how to do the same All of this is only possible with your support.  Make a donation NOW to guarantee we can keep going. In the months ahead, we still need to:   Protect the western blocks of our neighborhood from “air rights” transfers from the Hudson River Park that could dramatically increase the allowable size of new development   Secure much-needed landmark and zoning protections for the South Village, University Place/Broadway corridor, and the East Village   Win our case against the NYU expansion plan   Defend preservation against ongoing coordinated attacks from the Real Estate Board of New York Continue the fight to protect and preserve small businesses and local arts organizations   Keep pushing back against the Mayor’s plan to loosen neighborhood zoning protections   Expand landmarking protections to include more LGBT history sites and other sites of social and cultural significance   Extend our programming and the resources we provide to the public, and ensure our children’s education program is accessible to every child, regardless of ability to pay Support from individuals like you accounts for about three-quarters of GVSHP’s annual budget.
