Don’t Turn Our Neighborhoods Into Midtown South / Tech Hub Must Have Neighborhood Protections, Tuesday, February 27

Please attend Community Board #3’s final vote on the proposed 14th Street Tech Hub and protections for the surrounding neighborhood at on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:30pm at PS 20, 166 Essex Street south of Houston Street. Join us to urge the Community Board to support needed protections for the surrounding neighborhood!

Mayor de Blasio and real estate interests increasingly look at our neighborhoods as “Midtown South” – a great place for large new hotels, office buildings, and high-rise towers. When we met with the Mayor’s planning officials late last year about our rezoning proposal for the University Place/Broadway/3rd & 4th Avenue corridors, which face a growing wave of such development, they as much as said this to us. And the Mayor’s plan for a large new “Tech Hub” on the south side of 14th Street near 4th Avenue will only accelerate this trend, UNLESS it's accompanied by the protections for the adjacent Village and East Village neighborhoods we have been fighting for.

The only way we will get these protections is if Councilmember Carlina Rivera, who represents the area, maintains her campaign pledge and tells the Mayor the only way he will get her vote for his Tech Hub (which he needs) is if he finally supports the protections for the surrounding neighborhood we have demanded.
