Borough President To Issue Recommendation on Tech Hub and Neighborhood Protections Soon – Keep the Pressure On!

Borough President Gale Brewer will soon be issuing her recommendation on the proposed 14th Street Tech Hub. GVSHP and many other groups have urged her to include the need for protections for the surrounding Greenwich Village and East Village neighborhoods as part of any recommendation she issues, so that the development does not help turn this area into ‘Silicon Alley’ and ‘Midtown South,’ with a growing flood of high-rise condos, tech office buildings, and hotels. Including our proposed neighborhood protections would be a win-win that would allow the Tech Hub to move ahead while also protecting these neighborhoods not only from its effects but from the ongoing over-development resulting for the current lack of zoning or landmark protections there.

Toward this end, GVSHP has taken out ads in citywide and local publications highlighting the need for the Borough President to back up her words of support with action – view them herehere, and here

Help us keep elected officials accountable to their promises:

The next few weeks will be critical in determining whether or not the Borough President supports our neighborhood.

Please also call Borough President Brewer TODAY at 212-669-8300 and say: “I urge Borough President Brewer to include the proposed protections for Greenwich Village and the East Village AS A CONDITION OF ANY APPROVALS FOR THE 14th STREET TECH HUB.”  Please be polite and concise.
