City Planning Commission hearing on St. Vincent’s/Rudin Rezoning

St. VincentsThe City Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing on the ULURP application for Rudin Management Company's proposed rezoning of the former St. Vincent's hospital campus.

Rudin proposes to rezone the former campus in order to allow residential development on a site which had been specifically rezoned in 1979 to allow development of a hospital. GVSHP has long held that zoning specifically intended to help serve a public purpose should NOT be given over to a private, for-profit residential development, as Rudin is proposing to do in this case. None of the additional zoning density allowed for development of the hospital by the prior rezoning should be utilized for the new residential developments.  As Borough President Stringer has recommended approval of the rezoning (read HERE), it is especially important that the Commission hear objections to and concerns about the rezoning proposal.

HOW TO HELP:

Attend and speak at the City Planning Commission hearing on November 30th at 10:00am at the Department of City Planning, Spector Hall, 22 Reade Street. Sample testimony can be found HERE, or SEND a letter to the Commission before December 12th, 2011.
