St. Vincent’s/Rudin Environmental Review Hearing Tuesday, December 8th

Next Tuesday, December 8th at 10 am there will be a hearing on the proposed scope of the environmental review of the zoning changes being reqested for the Rudin/St. Vincent’s project.

This scope must be approved by the city, and once approved, the public hearing and review process for the proposed zoning changes begins. Though highly technical, and not about whether or not the zoning changes themselves should be approved, this scoping approval process has an important effect on how the impacts of the proposed changes are measured and analyzed, and can affect what zoning changes are or are not ultimately implemented.

GVSHP has reviewed this application and found several serious deficiencies in the scope and manner in which the proposed zoning changes for the planned Rudin/St. Vincent’s project are currently supposed to be analyzed. We will therefore be asking for substantial changes to the proposed scope of the environmental review, in order to help ensure that that the potential impacts of the proposed zoning changes are adequately and accurately measured and analyzed, and that the full range of possibilities are considered, not just the current proposal.

You can help.

We encourage you to testify at the hearing on Tuesday at 10 am at Spector Hall, ground floor, Department of City Planning, 22 Reade Street (one block north of Chambers Street, east of Broadway) and/or to send testimony in to the Department of City Planning noting these deficiencies and asking for changes. Letters must be received before Tuesday, December 22.

CLICK HERE for sample testimony and/or a sample letter to send; the sample testimony/letter also explains what the deficiencies in the current proposed scope of environmental review are and how they should be changed.

GVSHP will let you know the results of this process and inform you when hearings before the Community Board, Borough President, City Planning Commission and City Council on the proposed zoning changes have been scheduled in the new year.
