Back to School for Village Preservation’s Children’s Education Program

September is back to school time for Village Preservation’s award-winning Children’s Education program. Since 1991, we’ve offered elementary students an unparalleled opportunity to engage with New York City’s past by exploring the diverse culture and architecture of our neighborhoods. History and Historic Preservation highlights the uniqueness of our neighborhood’s historic built environment and the importance of preserving and learning from our past. The program is open to any public or independent school class in the five boroughs, and costs are minimal and waived based upon need.

Our two curricula, Greenwich Village Past and Present, and Immigration in the South Village include three interactive sessions led by qualified educators and align with New York State and City learning standards for Social Studies, English, Language Arts, and the Arts. Classes are a wonderful foundation for the study of the history and development of New York City. The program's two choices focus on diverse themes and distinct areas of the Village and are tailored to the needs of your individual class.

Each year, Village Preservation serves over 1,100 students in our program throughout New York City; last year more than 90% of classes participated for free or at reduced rates based upon need. Our ability to provide the program regardless of need results from the support of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Speaker Corey Johnson, the New York State Council on the Arts with support from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and Village Preservation members like you! To find out more about having your class participate, contact Sam Moskowitz via email or at 212-475-9585 x39.
