Community Board Vote on GVSHP University Place / Broadway Rezoning Plan Thursday

This Thursday evening, Community Board #2 will vote on GVSHP's proposed contextual rezoning of the University Place and Broadway corridors, which will prevent overdevelopment by imposing height limits on new construction and eliminating current zoning incentives for dorm and hotel construction. The proposal was sparked, in part, by the recently announced plan to construct a 308 ft. tall residential tower on the Bowlmor Lanes site at 110 University Place at 12th Street. GVSHP's contextual rezoning proposal was unanimously endorsed by the Board's Land Use Committee last week and has received overwhelming support from the public in last week's public hearing, a community meeting held by GVSHP in December, and an on-line survey. View video of the presentation of the rezoning plan here, and the PowerPoint presentation of the proposal here.

HOW TO HELP:

  • Attend the full Community Board #2 Meeting tomorrow Thursday, January 22 at 6pm in the Auditorium of the Scholastic Building, 557 Broadway (Prince Street). GVSHP will briefly present its contextual rezoning proposal for the University Place/Broadway Corridors proposal to the full board, and those in attendance will be asked with a show of hands to indicate support for the plan. Let the Community Board know you support the plan!

  • If you cannot attend, e-mail info@cb2manhattan.org with the message "I support the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation’s contextual rezoning plan for the University Place and Broadway corridors to be voted upon Thursday night."  Include your full name and address, and please copy info@gvshp.org.
