Hearing on Proposed East 10th Street Historic District Tues., Jan. 17
 After many delays, the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has finally scheduled a hearing on the proposed East 10th Street Historic District, which lies between Avenues A and B. In December, GVSHP and allied groups alerted the LPC to a plan by developer Ben Shaoul to alter and build atop 315 East 10th Street, an 1847 structure among this row of uniform and nearly pristine 19th century structures on Tompkins Square North. Following this, the LPC scheduled the long-delayed hearing on this proposed historic district, and we hope they will move ahead with designation in time to prevent this proposed destruction.
We are still awaiting the LPC scheduling a hearing on the proposed East Village/Lower East Side Historic District, which was calendared this past June with a promise of a public hearing, the next step in the approval process, to follow shortly thereafter. More than half a year later, we still await the hearing, while several buildings in the proposed district have been destroyed or are imminently threatened.
HOW TO HELP:

Attend the LPC hearing in support of landmarking the proposed East 10th Street Historic District on Tuesday, January 17th at 1:30 pm at One Centre Street (at Chambers), 9th floor hearing room (bring photo ID). Testify at the hearing in support, or just come to show support – sample testimony is HERE.

Send a letter to the LPC urging them to approve the proposed East 10th Street Historic District as soon as possible, and to move ahead with the proposed East Village/Lower East Side Historic District swiftly before more is lost – send a sample letter HERE.
