The Far West Village and the 3rd and 4th Avenue corridor rezonings we fought long and hard for will finally be heard at a public hearing in the City Council this Monday October 25th! If the full Council — which meets to vote on Oct. 27 — approves them as expected, the rezonings take effect immediately.

These changes will go a long way towards protecting and reinforcing the residential character of these neighborhoods and preventing inappropriate development. GVSHP and community groups had to overcome strong resistance and foot-dragging by the City on both rezoning efforts.
The meeting of the Council’s Zoning Subcommittee, which will include this public hearing (among other items), is currently scheduled to begin on Monday, October 25th at 9:30 am at 250 Broadway (at Park Place), the 16th floor (bring photo ID to enter). If you plan to attend, please e-mail GVSHP staff member Elizabeth Finkelstein to confirm that the hearing scheduling has not changed.
If you are able, I strongly encourage you to attend and testify in support. Whether or not you can attend, please send in written testimony in support prior to the 25th. Sample letters, which can also be used as your testimony, can be found for the Far West Village rezoning here, and the 3rd and 4th Avenue corridor here. If you do come to the hearing to testify in person, please bring 12 copies of your testimony to submit, and limit your testimony to 3 minutes.
