Landmarks Approves 145 Perry Street Design

Approved 145 Perry Street design.

We are disappointed to report that the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to approve the proposed design for a single family mansion and attached apartment building at 145 Perry Street in the Greenwich Village Historic District.  GVSHP had urged the Commission to ask the applicant to change the design, which while appropriate in terms of height and dimensions for the area, looked more like a high-end retail store on Rodeo Drive or in Miami than an appropriate addition to the Greenwich Village Historic District.  The proposed design was approved with just one “no” vote.

While we were deeply disappointed by the vote, it is worth noting that the approved design is considerably smaller than one for a hotel approved years ago by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. GVSHP and neighbors then spearheaded a campaign for a zoning change for the area which made the hotel use impossible and imposed stricter height limits for new construction than the proposed development.

You can read more about the project and the LPC hearing in NY Yimby and NY Post.
