LPC Pushes Back on Proposed Hudson and Charles Street Design

Last week GVSHP, dozens of neighbors, Community Board #2 and representatives of local elected officials testified at the Landmarks Preservation Commission regarding concerns about the proposed design for a new building on the northeast corner of Hudson and Charles Street where a disused gas station and two story building now stand.

In its testimony, GVSHP called the proposed design overwhelming and monotonous, and called for a substantial rethinking. Elected officials raised some of the same issues. More than one hundred fifty GVSHP members also sent letters to the LPC raising objections to the proposal, which was also noted at the hearing and clearly had an impact (thanks to all who wrote!).

The LPC pushed back on many of the same issues, and told the applicant they would need to revise their design. It will now be up to the applicant to make changes and come back with a modified design.
