New Six Story Building Planned at 156 Perry

In August GVSHP reported that demolition permits were filed for 156 Perry Street (between West & Washington Streets), among other sites. Now GVSHP's monitoring shows that new building plans have been filed for a 6-story building on the site.

As we reported previously, the size of the planned new development is severely limited by a 2005 contextual rezoning of the Far West Village GVSHP successfully fought for; prior to that rezoning there were no height limits for new construction in the area. This past year GVSHP successfully helped lead the campaign to prevent the proposed rollback by the Mayor of those zoning protections, which remain in full effect.

Detailed architectural plans for the planned new building have not yet been released. GVSHP will continue to closely monitor this and other demolition and construction sites in our neighborhood to ensure work conforms to all requirements.  Every day, GVSHP monitors all 6,500 building lots in our neighborhood for new demolition, construction, and major alteration permit applications.
