GANSEVOORT PROPOSAL
RETURNS TO LANDMARKS
FEB. 9 at 11:15 am
Please Join Us!

Dear friend,

The proposal to demolish a pair of 1-2 story historic market buildings on Gansevoort Street and replace them with new buildings up to 120 feet tall, as well as triple the height of other 2-story market buildings on the street, will return to the Landmarks Preservation Commission next Tuesday, February 9th at 11:15 am.  The developers have not changed their plan, but will be responding to the litany of criticisms their proposal received from the public at the hearing in November, as well as feedback from the Commissioners.

While the public will not be allowed to speak at this public meeting, it’s vital that we have a large presence to remind the Commissioners of the strength of our opposition (GVSHP will provide stickers for you to wear so the Commissioners are aware of your opposition).  GVSHP is strongly opposed to this plan, which would fundamentally alter the character of this historic cobblestoned street at the heart of the Gansevoort Market Historic District, of which GVSHP successfully proposed and secured landmark designation in 2003.

Find out more about the proposal here and here.

HOW TO HELP:

Sincerely,

Andrew Berman
Executive Director
