View the Whitney’s Plans for a New Museum in the Meatpacking District
Last night the Whitney Museum made a public presentation at Community Board #2 of its plans for its new flagship museum on Gansevoort and West Streets, just west of the entrance to the High Line in the Meatpacking District. You can view images from the Whitney’s PowerPoint presentation on GVSHP’s Flickr page HERE.
The Whitney Museum, which began at 8 West 8th Street in the Village (now the New York Studio School), would sell some of its current Madison Avenue properties and permanently move its main collection to this location. The 200,000 sq. ft. building would be designed by architect Renzo Piano, with groundbreaking expected in May of next year and opening sometime in 2015.
GVSHP will continue to monitor progress on this project and keep you informed of new developments.
