MePa Tower Plan Back To Drawing Board, Again
On Tuesday the Landmarks Preservation Commission turned back a revised proposal to add five stories to the two-story former meatpacking plant at 837 Washington Street (at West 13th Street) in the Gansevoort Market Historic District. This is the fifth version of a plan to build on top of this building. GVSHP has consistently argued that the proposed additions are too large and inappropriate for this historic district, and we are pleased to report that thus far the Landmarks Preservation Commission has agreed. GVSHP successfully advocated to get the Gansevoort Market Historic District designated in by the City of New York in 2003, and placed on the State and National Register of Historic Places in 2007; both districts include this building.
See images of the proposal and find out more about the plans on GVSHP’s Blog “Off the Grid” HERE or on GVSHP’s Landmarks Application Webpage HERE.
