Town Hall Wed. 11/13 at 6:30 — Save Our Waterfront from Overdevelopment!

Please join GVSHP and more than twenty other west side community groups for a Town Hall about new state legislation allowing the transfer of air rights from the Hudson River Park for use in our neighborhood, east of the park.

This legislation could have an enormous impact upon our neighborhood and our waterfront in the coming years.  It allows 1.6 million square feet of additional development rights – possibly more – to be used within a 1-block wide stretch of our neighborhood, between 59th and Chambers Streets.  In a worst case-scenario, it could be used to undo zoning protections which we fought for  years to secure, or to vastly increase the size of allowable new development on sites adjacent to the park, or both.  But if we are educated and organized, we can prevent this from happening.

PLEASE COME TO LEARN MORE AND HELP US RESPOND TO THIS PLAN!

HOW TO HELP:

  • Come to the Town Hall on Hudson River Park air rights on Wednesday, November 13th at 6:30 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Bernard’s Church, 328 W. 14th Street (8th/9th Avenues) – download flyer here. Please RSVP to rsvp@gvshp.org if you plan to attend so we can be sure we can accommodate everyone.

  • If you haven’t already, write or call Governor Cuomo right away to let him know your concerns about the air rights provision of the Hudson River Park bill and its potential to lead to overdevelopment of our waterfront – use sample letter here or call him at (518) 474-8390.

  • Spread the word – share this e-mail with friends, family, and neighbors!
