Important Community Meeting on Proposed Hudson Square Rezoning Tues., Mar. 27

Hudspn Square RezoningTrinity Realty plans to file an application to rezone more than a dozen blocks in Hudson Square to encourage new high-rise residential development while discouraging some other types of development in the area.  A rezoning of this scale would have a huge effect not only on Hudson Square, but the neighboring South Village (read more HERE), SoHo, and Far West Village neighborhoods, as well as the adjacent Charlton-King-Vandam Historic District GVSHP and many other community groups have long called for a change to the zoning for this area, which currently allows 450 ft. tall buildings and encourages large-scale hotel development (read more about the rezoning HERE).

But the currently proposed rezoning may not put in place all the solutions we need, and some developers are already lobbying to weaken the proposal’s modest restrictions on high-rise development.   That is why GVSHP, the Charlton and Vandam Block Associations, the SoHo Alliance, the Greenwich Village Community Task Force, and Greenwich Village Block Associations are having a community meeting on Tuesday, March 27th to inform the community about the status of this potential zoning proposal, what its provisions might entail, and what you can do to ensure that our neighborhoods are protected from out-of-scale and out-of-character development.

HOW TO HELP:

  • Come to the Community Meeting on the Hudson Square Rezoning proposal on Tuesday, March 27th at 6:30 at the SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam Street (west of 6th Avenue) – see the flyer HERE.
  • Spread the word!  Pass this e-mail or the flyer along to friends and neighbors and encourage them to attend.
