City Council Hearing on
Small Business Jobs Survival Act 10/22

On Wednesday, GVSHP joined Councilmembers Ydanis Rodriguez, Carlina Rivera, Margaret Chin, and Antonio Reynoso and a host of groups from across the city for a rally on the steps of City Hall in support of the Small Business Jobs Survival Act (SBJSA) – read the press release here and view pictures here. Thank you to everyone who braved the rain to be there!

The SBJSA has been under consideration for three decades but has rarely received a hearing and never received a vote. New Council Speaker Corey Johnson has committed to giving the bill a hearing.  Given the blight of storefronts being held empty by landlords seeking astronomical rents, the SBJSA is critical now to help even the playing field and give small businesses a fighting chance to remain in their spaces.  With the bill recently reintroduced and widespread attention focused on the issue, we have good momentum to finally make some real progress on this very necessary measure.
