Zoning Variance for Proposed 6-story Mixed-Use Building at 51-57 Carmine Street October 14

Zoning Variance for Proposed 6-story Mixed-Use Building at 51-57 Carmine Street (at Bedford Street) – This Community Board public hearing was re-scheduled from September, and will now take place on  Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 pm at the NYU Silver Building, 32 Waverly Place (at Washington Sq. East), rm. 206.  A developer has filed applications to construct a six-story plus penthouse structure on a site currently occupied by one and three-story buildings. The site lies within GVSHP’s originally proposed South Village Historic District, the first phase of which was landmarked by the City in 2010, but this site and a few adjacent lots were cut out of the district by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. While the proposed new building is no larger or taller than some surrounding buildings, it is larger than current zoning for the site allows for the planned residential and commercial structure. The variance application indicates the new development will include affordable as well as market-rate housing.  Read the zoning variance application here, and find out more here.
