Final Community Board Hearing and Vote on Hudson Sq. Rezoning and South Village Impact October 18th

Hudson SquareThis Thursday, Community Board #2 will hold its final public hearing and vote on Trinity Realty’s proposed Hudson Square Rezoning.  As currently configured, the proposed rezoning would encourage new development of a great size and scale (up to 320 and 430 feet high, roughly the height of Trump SoHo), while increasing development pressure upon the adjacent unprotected and increasingly threatened South Village

GVSHP and many allied community groups are calling for lower significantly lower height and bulk limits.  But we are also calling for designation of the proposed South Village Historic District as absolutely necessary mitigation if the rezoning is to be approved.

The Community Board’s resolution will influence what city officials who ultimately decide the outcome of the rezoning and landmark proposal will do.  It is therefore ESSENTIAL that the Community Board in its resolution state clearly that the South Village MUST be landmarked in order for the Hudson Square Rezoning to be approved.

HOW TO HELP:

  • Come to the Community Board hearing this Thursday at St. Anthony’s Church basement hall, Sullivan Street just below Houston Street. Sign up to testify between 6 and 6:30 pm, and call for lower height and bulk limits and for an absolute requirement that the South Village be landmarked in order for the rezoning to be approved – use sample testimony HERE.

  • Write to the Community Board and city officials urging them to lower the height and bulk limits in the proposed Hudson Square Rezoning and insist upon landmarking of the South Village as a condition of approval – use sample letters HERE (same as sample testimony).
