TECH HUB FINAL VOTE SOON
CALL & WRITE TODAY:
NO TECH HUB WITHOUT
NEIGHBORHOOD PROTECTIONS

Call Mayor de Blasio at
212-788-7418

GVSHP is working closely with Councilmember Carlina Rivera to ensure that the Mayor’s planned 14th Street Tech Hub is not approved UNLESS it includes zoning or landmark protections. This would ensure that the surrounding Greenwich Village and East Village neighborhoods do not become an extension of “Midtown South” or “Silicon Alley,” with out-of-scale and out-of-character high-rise and largely commercial development. Councilmember Rivera pledged during her campaign for office that she would only approve the Tech Hub if it included such protections which GVSHP has proposed, and she has been fighting for the development to include real community and educational benefits.

But the Mayor continues to fight such reasonable requests, instead only backing the developers of the proposed Tech Hub, who are longstanding campaign donors. Other campaign fundraisers for the Mayor stand to benefit handsomely from his resistance to zoning or landmark protections for the surrounding Greenwich Village and East Village neighborhoods.

The Mayor’s Tech Hub plan requires City Council approval, and the Council will typically defer to the local Councilmember, in this case, Councilmember Rivera, on local land use issues. The Council will vote this week and/or next – make sure your voice is heard before then!
