Important Upcoming Hearings on Rudin/St. Vincent’s Development

I wanted to be sure you are aware of several important upcoming Community Board #2 public hearings on the proposed Rudin residential development on the former St. Vincent’s campus.

The Rudin organization is proposing to turn the former St. Vincent’s East Campus into a residential development and the triangle site on the west side of Seventh Avenue into a publicly-accessible green space.  Substantial zoning changes are required for this proposed development to move ahead.  Community Board #2 must have a series of public hearings, at which the public can testify, before it formulates its recommendations to the Manhattan Borough President, the City Planning Commission, and the City Council as to how or if the proposed changes should be approved.  Both the City Planning Commission and the City Council must approve the rezonings for them to move ahead; the Borough President’s vote is advisory.

GVSHP will be participating in the following Community Board #2 hearings, which will precede their vote on the issue:

  • PARKS, RECREATION & OPEN SPACE Committee, Wed., 10/5
    5:30 PM
Meet at the gate on Greenwich Ave. and Bank St.-- St. Vincent’s Triangle Park site visit.  (SITE VISIT WILL START PROMPTLY AT 5:30 PM)

  • FULL Community BOARD #2, Thurs., 10/20 @ 6:00 PM-Public School 130, 143 Baxter Street, Auditorium
THE PUBLIC SESSION BEGINS AT 6:00 PM. SPEAKERS' CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED FROM 6:00 TO 6:30 PM.

GVSHP does not believe that zoning considerations originally intended to benefit a hospital serving a public purpose should be given, in whole or in part, to a private, for-profit residential development, as is proposed in this case (read more HERE).  Sample testimony which can be used at Community Board #2 regarding the rezoning/residential development issues can be found HERE.

Community Board #2 will be holding additional hearings on other aspects of the Rudin/St. Vincent’s plan – click HERE for details.  Click HERE for details on other aspects of the Rudin plan and plans by Long Island College Jewish Hospital for the O’Toole Building.

We strongly urge anyone interested in this very important issue to attend and participate in these hearings.
