Chelsea Market Upzoning/Large-Scale Additions Application Certified Hearings April 16 and May 2
Today the City Planning Commission certified Jamestown Properties’ application to upzone Chelsea Market in order to allow a large office tower to be built atop the 10th Avenue end of the historic complex and a large hotel to be built atop the 9th Avenue end. No additional construction is allowed on the site under the current zoning for the area because the complex is so large already.
With the application certified, it now begins the approximately seven month public hearing and approval process. The first step is an advisory vote by Community Board #4. Before they vote, they will hold a public hearing in their Chelsea Planning and Preservation Committee on April 16 starting at 6:30 pm at the Fulton Auditorium, 119 9th Avenue at 17th Street. This will be followed by a public hearing at the full Community Board #4 meeting on Wednesday, May 2nd starting at 6pm at Roosevelt Hospital, 1000 Tenth Avenue at 59th Street.
PLEASE ATEND AND TESTIFY, OR JUST SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION, AT THESE CRUCIAL PUBLIC HEARINGS.
The upzoning and the new construction at Chelsea Market cannot happen unless it is approved by the City Planning Commission and the City Council. To help, write to city officials urging them to oppose the plan by CLICKING HERE.
