Hearings on Two Important East Village Landmarks, Tuesday June 20 at 6:30pm
On Tuesday Community Board #3’s Landmarks Committee will review applications for a 2-story addition to the 3 ½ story 19th century house at 104 E. 10th Street (east of 3rd Ave) in the St. Mark’s Historic District Extension, and an addition to the Anthology Film Archives at 32 Second Avenue (at 2nd Street) in the East Village/Lower East Side Historic District. The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm at the JASA/Green Residence, 200 East 5th Street at the Bowery.
Neighbors fought hard to get 104 and 102 East 10th Street added to the St. Mark’s Historic District in 1984, and in 2011, GVSHP and our allies fought hard to get the Anthology Film Archives Building and a dozen other nearby buildings added to the then-proposed, now-designated East Village/Lower East Side Historic District. GVSHP has serious concerns about the proposed addition to 104 E. 10th Street, which would also require a zoning variance. The proposed addition to Anthology Film Archives, one of the treasured cultural institutions in our neighborhood, has been scaled back considerably from previously-reported plans.
